Revolutionizing Architecture with Solar Cladding

Transforming Buildings into Powerhouses with Danial Hadizadeh's Innovative Design

Imagine a world where every building is not just a structure, but a powerhouse, generating its own energy. This is the vision of Danial Hadizadeh, the creator of Solar Cladding, a unique building integrated solar technology that has won the prestigious Silver A' Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design Award in 2022.

Hadizadeh's inspiration for Solar Cladding came from a simple realization. He noticed the heat absorbed by the walls of a high-rise building and wondered why this energy was being wasted. This led to the development of Solar Cladding, a technology that allows every surface touched by the sun to generate energy.

Solar Cladding is unique in its design and functionality. It uses monocrystalline solar cells sandwiched between a customizable glass facing layer and an aluminum honeycomb backing. This design replaces traditional building materials with an energy-generating, aesthetic alternative. Unlike typical solar technology, Solar Cladding fully integrates into the façade with no design limits, including colour and size, paving the way for a zero-emission future.

The technology behind Solar Cladding is as impressive as its concept. The monocrystalline solar cells are encapsulated with a customizable colour-coated tempered glass exterior, mounted onto a composite aluminum honeycomb base. This design takes advantage of the honeycomb matrix to increase the integrity of the façade. A variety of attachment systems make installation simple, and an automated manufacturing plant allows for rapid and consistent production.

One of the key features of Solar Cladding is its interaction with the environment. It maintains the original function of the surface it is integrated into by acting as an energy-efficient building envelope. The surface layer allows light to pass through and reach the solar layer through an embedded custom coating, which features fade-resistant colours. The glass also has an anti-reflective coating that maximizes efficiency and an anti-soiling coating that allows for self-cleaning.

Hadizadeh's Solar Cladding has already been implemented in various projects, including high-rise buildings, greenhouses, and warehouses. The first pilot project was at the manufacturing facility in Toronto, Canada in 2021, where the building incorporated BIPV cladding that supplies energy directly to the facility, offsetting the reliance on the high-carbon grid.

In conclusion, Solar Cladding is a revolutionary design that has the potential to transform the way buildings are constructed and energy is generated. It is a testament to Hadizadeh's vision and dedication to creating a more sustainable future. As more buildings adopt this technology, we move closer to a world where every structure is not just a building, but a powerhouse.
